Hotpot is one of the most popular dishes in China. Across the country, there are different types of versions.
Not only the type of hotpot varies but also there are some unique and unusual hotpot restaurants.
Here we present four unique hotpot opportunities in China!
AI-Controlled Restaurant
Haidilao is the largest hotpot chain in China and is best known for its customer-focused service.
The brand opened its first AI-controlled restaurant in Beijing in 2018.
After customers place their orders, dishes are automatically selected by robotic arms and then brought to the table by robot waiters. These are now available in most Haidilao stores to assist the waiters.
World largest Hotpot
The world’s largest hotpot was unveiled at the China International Import Expo in Shanghai.
With a diameter of around 10 meters, up to 56 people can enjoy the hotpot at the same time.
According to the Chinese news Xinhua, the hotpot used around 2,000kg of seasoning, 200kg of pepper and 500kg of chilies.
Shirtless Restaurant
In Xian, Shaanxi Province, this restaurant has hired models to work as waitresses.
These topless waitresses, who mainly attract women, bring you food and offer to take a photo with them.
While the owner describes this unique service as a pleasant experience, it has also been criticized for unsanitary service and sexism.
Ice Cave
The southern Chinese city of Chongqing is known for its spicy hotpot.
During the heat wave in summer 2019, this hotpot joint turned into an ice cave.
While the outside temperature was more than 40 degrees, customers had to wear winter clothes.
On social media, this event was criticized for the enormous waste of energy.
